Urgent Need

Electricity in Haiti is consistently inconsistent. The recent outage has been going on for over two weeks now. Electricity at the children's home is a must. In addition to the difficulties we immediately think of related to not having electricity, it also means that the water well is not able to pump water to the home. That means we are purchasing non-potable water from a truck for bathing and bottled water for drinking, which puts a strain on the budget. A generator is the back-up that keeps the well running and the lights on. The generator at the children's home is 15 years old. Over the past couple of years, we have put a significant amount of money into repairs. Most recently, we spent $600 on a repair that did not last. We are now being told that fixing it will cost another $2,500. For $7,000, we can purchase a new one. At this point, we think that is the best option. Large and unexpected expenses like this are very hard on the budget for the home.
